IS EDGE COMPUTING THE NEXT PHASE OF IT

Whether Edge Computing will complement the existing legacy infrastructure or entirely substitute it, remains a wide-ranging debate. It will be interesting to observe how enterprises adapt amid such radical technological innovation i.e. the next-gen services will be a combination of the data center, the cloud, and the edge or edge will dominate. In this data-driven economy, current data infrastructure will most likely undergo a drastic revolution.

Phase 1: Traditional data center served the enterprise applications and internal communication

Phase 2: Cloud gained prominence with the advent of Web-scale e-commerce and other high-volume services

Phase 3 (Ongoing) poses a question whether Internet of Things (IoT) requirements will lead to an increased emphasis on the Edge Computing?
